Actually, after writing that post I read The Wandering Mind which talks about monks dealing with distraction and there is a whole chapter on their development of the technology of books. Just because it doesn't need electricity, doesn't mean it isn't technology!
I have 4,000 books. Not as many as some - but more that most. I also have DVDs, Blu Rays, and pdfs. One needs the old and the new.
Sometimes, the simplest technology really is the best (we don’t usually think of a book as technology, but it is!).
